Meet Our Founders

Tobias is a climate and data entrepreneur who spent many years working in India and Africa. He grew increasingly impatient with the slow pace of our clean energy transition. Selecting sites took years, roads were often poor and information on potential demand was largely anecdotal.

Meanwhile, Nabin grew up in a village in Nepal that was transformed when a hydro-power plant was built and reliable energy arrived. He resolved to help others experience this life-changing technology and has a background working for software companies. Philippe studied physics and machine learning in his native Switzerland. He then worked on data technology and deep-tech startups coming out of university.

The spark that got this trio going was a discussion with the European Space Agency (ESA) on innovative uses for geospatial data. VIDA was born in 2018.

In just a few years, the company has grown to 50 people, working from across Europe and Africa, and is used in more than 40 countries. Major global companies, investors and banks use VIDA in their everyday work to better understand location risks. VIDA software fuses >50 data layers, including on climate risk, environmental risk, political risk, social risk, accessibility risk and demand risk to support sustainable infrastructure investments globally.
